the TV american animated series, not the smurf movie^^;

so yeah, I finally watched it. am a little bit late compared to the rest of the world but I have a tendency to avoid things over which there is a huge hype. but quite a few friends of mine liked it and one even sent me a video with funny scenes from it so... yeah, that won me over^^;

first of all, I need to admit that I absolutely ADORE the series. I didn't use a word 'cartoon' for it because despite the fact that it's an american production, it's so anime-like. and I think that's why I enjoyed it so much^^; all the characters were sweet and fantastic (maybe except for Azula, you can call her everything but NOT sweet^^;), I'm especially a fan of Team Avatar, all its primary members (Toph included)
what do I have to say about the series overall? well, it's very well executed. the composition of the whole thing reminds me a little of Dragon Ball and Slayers, and that's not a bad thing at all^^ I'm happy that each character has their own role and is not overlooked. I'm glad that Aang, despite being the main hero, is a little goofy and childish, but at the same time he's witty and smart. I'm happy that Sokka, despite being the humor relief of the gang, is also the mastermind behind all their plans. I'm happy that Toph despite being the most powerful of them all, is miserable and useless in certain situations. I'm happy that Katara at the beginning is a newbie bender but by the end of the series, she's really really strong. and I also adore the humor of them all XDD

graphically, the series is very easy to like as well^^ certain scenes remind me terribly of some top notch anime quality. but what I liked the most is their hair XDDD they grow!! even Aang, who is by default bald, in third season has hair^^; and as I was a little wary of this at first, he does look incredibly cute that way^^

all in all, I'm charmed. it's been a long time since an american series had me this glued to screen. if it was available here, I'd even buy the DVD set to fully appreciate certain scenes (Aang's fight with Jet, the volcano struggle, Aang traveling on a huge ocean wave to Ba Sing Se and so on) but, it's not and american sets are too expensive for me>< so yeah, I'll be a sad fan for a while ;_; expect fanart from me^^; I don't think I can resist anymore^^;

I got won over by Avatar after the series was nearly over (I think the finale was getting ready to play just at the time I was beginning Book 3).

I was also captivated by the characters (and promptly insisted [livejournal.com profile] cornerofmadness take a look, as Zuko is one of her favorite types of characters. Personally, I adore Uncle Iroh and Toph (as well as Mai, but...but...she's Mai).

Can't wait to see fanart.

Oh, and I'll have to see if I can find the crossover fic [livejournal.com profile] artemisrae wrote for me, which has Roy vs. Zuko. :D

hahaha, so I'm not the only one late^^; good to know^^

yees, characters are one of the strongest points of this series, I admit, they're really adorable^^ and totally agree with you on Iroh and Toph. the idea of an old fat geezer and sweet little blind girl being extremely powerful is just.... excellent^^

I found it in her archieve^^ will have to read it sometime^^

I like the art, too, which appears to have American design work and the fluidity of Asian animation (yay). And that the characters are something other than Caucasian. :D Plus, all the martial arts! *digs that a lot*

It's just such an amazing world. And there's a sequel series coming out next year, I think, with a new Avatar. :D :D

I'm more than slightly excited there'll be a female avatar...

I've been trying to get my boss to watch the series with his daughters. I KNOW they'd love it, but he's been resistant.
